Being a teacher is not an easy task, yet Mrs. Cuccio makes it look so easy!
Mrs. Cuccio teaches English classes, along with a new elective: Mystery, Horror, Science Fiction, & Fantasy.
Cuccio commented on how interesting it is to teach Honors English 11. “The thing about honors that I find intriguing is how much psychotic pressure you guys are under. But also, being able to majestically push through it and be able to get excited for what’s going on in the classroom.”
Cuccio values her junior classes and enjoys, “How juniors are open to more mature themes.”
When asked about one of her favorite parts about teaching her Juniors, she says “My favorite thing to do is college essay help. You guys are defining yourself through your storytelling.”
Former student, Zoe Ortiz, expressed how much she adores Mrs. Cuccio. “I love her so much. She’s my best friend. I can talk to her about anything and have fun with her. Her class was so fun!”
One thing many students adore about Mrs. Cuccio, is how connected she is with them. “My students keep me in the know. They fill me in on all the tea, the beef, I got a whole Drake and Kendrick Lamar summary. I know more pop culture, I know what’s going on.”
Cuccio adds, “I really do like seeing how students are becoming more confident in their own opinions and their own way of seeing the world.”
On top of teaching, Mrs. Cuccio leads the Student Government Organization (SGO). They plan and run the pep rallies and a number of contests throughout the year including the Halloween Costume Contest.
Christian Yarar, a senior, also commented on Cuccio’s welcoming and fun personality, “I’ve had a [number of] conversations. She complimented my Halloween costume!”
Something Cuccio has noticed with her students is how they often give her a new way of thinking and make her teaching experience so much more enjoyable. “What I really love is even though I’ve read something a thousand times, my students still take me somewhere where I find new things from them and I’m obsessed with that.”
As Cuccio deeply values her students, she has a few messages she wants her students to walk away with, “I want them to take away that there are people who are going to value and respect their point of view. I want them to take away the last day where we talk about weird liminal spaces and how you transition from 11th grade to 12th grade. You just walk over the threshold.”
