Lori Dunn is a chemistry teacher here at River Dell and has been teaching RD for 25 years. She may be known for her hard quizzes and tests and the complicated topics she teaches, but her positive energy and compassion never goes unseen.
Although learning about Protons, Electrons, Valence Electrons, and the Periodic table is not easy, many students look forward to her class due to her upbeat teaching styles and the welcoming environment her classroom holds.
Ms. Dunn goes out of her way to form bonds and relationships with each and every one of her students and strives to help her students in any way possible.
“Ms. Dunn is always there for her students and makes chemistry interesting, I look forward to her class because I always have fun,” said, sophomore, Nick Clark.
Dunn’s ability to make chemistry fun and enjoyable for students is severely underseen. She challenges her students to think and work hard to understand and meet their personal goals. Ms. Dunn only wants to see each and every one of them succeed.
Ms. Kantanas, her in-class support teacher said that, “Mrs. Dunn has a remarkable ability to challenge student thinking and boost engagement, encouraging them to explore concepts deeply and develop critical thinking skills. Working alongside her not only enriches our classroom experience but also inspires both our students and ourselves.”
She always reminds her students to try their best and always provides extra help during her lunch and after school to further help students grasp the understanding of chemistry.
Dalia Interiano is a sophomore at RD, and one of Ms. Duns students. “Mrs. Dunn is a great teacher and will teach in ways each of her students learn best from, weather its hands on, visual, or verbal. She is always encouraging us to do our best and to come to extra help, which helps a lot,” said Interiano.
Dunn may seem a little tough at times, but that is only because she knows and expects the best from each of her students and only wants the best for them.
In some classes Ms. Dunn is accompanied by Ms. Kantanas. When asked about her experience teaching with Ms. Dunn, Ms. Kantanas describes it as nothing less than a great experience. “I truly enjoy teaching alongside Mrs. Dunn. Since teaching together for many years, we have developed a strong collaborative environment where we coteach seamlessly. We lean on each other’s strengths, which enhances our lessons and benefits our students.”
Ms. Dunns impact on the students of River Dell is described as positive and upbeat, as she strives to educate her students and create a welcoming environment in her classroom.
Ms. Dunn is seen as a understanding, hardworking, and inspiring teacher that we are lucky to have in the River Dell community.
