A picture of a beautiful night sky gets photobombed by a Friday night football game.
On Friday night September 26th River Dell’s football team came out strong, beating Morris Hills 48-6 in an exciting game at home.
From the very first play, the Golden Hawks had all the energy, and the crowd was loud and the players were ready to win. “I knew our chances of winning were 100%” said Zion Yoon, senior QB for River Dell.
“We prepared for them with help from our coaches, so we trusted the game plan and coaches to help lead us win,” said Yoon.
The offense moved fast and scored even faster with Zion Yoon throwing clean passes and running back Cain Lanza breaking tackles and finding open space all over the field.
Every time Morris Hills tried to fight back, River Dell’s defense stepped up and shut them down. The only points Morris Hills managed came on a single touchdown in the second half, long after the game was decided.
It wasn’t only the offense who shined. The defense made big stops and Dom Demarco, Adam Ibrahim, Teddy Schwanewede, and Luke Van Dam even forced four turnovers.
Zion threw three touchdowns, one to Cain Lanza, Nick Cordts, and Mike DeGroat. He also ran for a touchdown during the first half onslaught. Lanza, outside of his catch from Zion, also had two rushing touchdowns. JV wide receiver Dan Lee also caught a touchdown from sophomore QB Brooks Esler during the game’s second half.
The student section was packed, and the band was keeping the energy up with their music.
The stands were filled with excitement, energy, and students dressed for a Neon Out. Every big play got a crazy reaction from the crowd.
Even though the score ended up being a blowout, people kept the energy up the whole time.
“The student section was lit with all the neon. Everyone was yelling, cheering, and just vibing hard the whole game,” said Alijah Abraham.
The team played smart and clean without a single fumble or interception thrown and kept the pressure on all night. In the end, it was an awesome win for River Dell and a night to remember.
