The River Dell/Westwood boys and girls swim teams delivered dominant performances against Hackensack on January 8, 2026, earning convincing victories on both sides of the meet. The girls cruised to a 119–45 win, while the boys remained undefeated with a commanding 126–43 result.
On the girls’ side, the lineup was powered by standout swims from Westwood freshman Mia Petrone and River Dell junior Maeve Pospischil. Petrone continued her impressive first season with wins in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, showcasing speed and control in the sprint events. She also played a crucial role in the relays, anchoring the winning 200 freestyle relay and closing out the meet strong as the anchor on the victorious 400 freestyle relay.
Pospischil added valuable points across multiple events. She finished second in the 100 butterfly before turning in a dominant performance in the 100 backstroke, where she captured first place. Her versatility and consistency helped the girls maintain momentum throughout the meet. With the win, the girls improved their overall record to 4–2, continuing to build confidence as the season progresses.
“It was a tough competition, but we persisted and came out strong in the end,” said Pospischil.
The boys’ team delivered a well-rounded effort that reflected their depth and balance. Westwood senior Gianluca Perin led the way by winning both the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, setting the tone early for River Dell/Westwood. River Dell senior Gabe Orellana contributed with a strong second-place finish in the 50 freestyle, while River Dell junior Christian Piergentile impressed with victories in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.
“The boys had a balanced effort in the win,” said Coach Armen.
With contributions coming from multiple swimmers across events, the boys improved to a perfect 6–0 on the season. Both teams will look to carry this momentum forward as they continue their push toward a strong finish in the competition ahead.
