On April 24th students of River Dell were not only greeted by their teachers and administrators, but also their sons and daughters, for the annual national event, Bring Your Kid to Work Day.
“My kids have been coming since they were little, and River Dell is like family, so it’s a nice way for them to stay in touch with friends from here.” Ms. Luberto stated.
Ms. Vantol, a special education teacher here at River Dell, created a schedule and activities for the kids to do. “Bring Your Kid to Work Day was a great success! We had a fantastic turnout, with employees and their children engaging in a variety of interactive activities that showcased what we do each day,” Ms. Vantol stated.
During the second period the kids participated in Art Around the World, where the children met the Hawk, took a photo with Principal Mr. Pepe, and colored.
Following the normal schedule the morning announcements went off during period 3 and many of the staff’s kids led the school to the Pledge of Allegiance over the loudspeaker. During that same period they also wrote a creative writing piece with Ms. Dolaghan, followed by period 4, the daughters and sons colored in a Famous American Activity and then met for Lunch where they were served Pizza in the Library.
During Period Six they “Walked the Dog” with Mr. Drywa using static electricity, Mr. Drywa taught the kids about static electricity and then planned a hands-on lesson where the kids could lay their hands on a Plasma Ball.
Then in period 7 Mr.Lauterback held a Teen Pep Hoola Hoop showdown or the kids could learned about Human Genetics with DeVincenzo.
Finally, to conclude their day, period 8 the children could go to the faculty lounge for an Ice Cream Sundae Bar.
“The event not only helped strengthen our community culture, but also gave our team an opportunity to connect on a more personal level,” Ms. Vantol added.
Many of the children participated in these activities but many others stayed with their parents in their classrooms to watch their parents teach.
Many kids hung out with students and Mr. Nolan states, “It was a great experience for our girls. They love looking up to the older kids and following them around. Our older daughter asked when Liz MacRae was going to be babysitting.”
“I had so much fun hanging out with Ms. Nolan’s kids and coloring with them, and even having them follow me to some of the other classes of my day.” Elizabeth MacRae stated.
“They were able to see a day in the life of their mom and dad, and can’t wait to be a big kid at the high school,” Mr. Nolan said.
