Today marks the Class of 2029’s Field Day. River Dell’s freshmen students came in with excitement and (not to mention) many layers to stay warm while they playing games.
River Dell’s athletic fields were flooded with colorful uniforms and unique team names such as The Fetty Whoppers, The Preds, The Ptactical Pterodactyls. Each team works together to score points to be crowned the Field Day champion.
Though some teams were more enthusiastic about their mascots than others.
Hunter Hart, senior team pep member, said, “We were left with the color yellow. And what else is yellow except giraffes? So we were the Glamour Giraffes.”
Today’s field day was held on a perfect fall morning. At 60 degrees by 10 AM and a slight wind, the kids did not stop having fun. As is has been in the past, it is a perfect way for the freshman class to come together as a grade and simply have fun.
“The weather’s great,” said Hart. “It was supposed to be rainy all week and today was actually supposed to be cancelled so we are really happy to be here today.”
On the soccer practice field, teams played Battleship while Ultimate Frisbee was played just across on the field hockey practice field. Other games such as relays, whiffle ball and shoe drive took place on the turf field. The final game, tug of war, is set to held on the 50-yard line marking the end of this year’s competition.
The students played games, hung out with friends, and created rivalries across the fields. Peer Leader of the Fetty Whoppers, Maddie Krieger, said the freshmen were having fun and building new relationships via the games. “You can’t spell unity, without “u” and an “i.”
