October 22nd Mr. Sasso’s Sport Management class took a trip to MetLife Stadium. They didn’t catch a game even if the team is kind enough to gift the students tickets to one. His class is travelled to learn about how the Jet’s operate on a day to day basis from the front office to the facility management.
Mr. Sasso has been going on these business days with his class for many years with each one having something different to offer. This year was all about ticket sales for the suites and how to continue to promote themselves. The New York Jet’s have a record of 1-7 the tickets sales team explained that through steak dinners, free food and alcohol, chances to meet the players, merch, premium seating at concerts such as Taylor Swift, Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, Paul McCartney and other major artists they keep their clientele coming back.
The tickets team discussed the saturated market of New York as well with the Rangers, Knicks, Broadway, restaurant scene, all competing for business and how they adapt to that.
Students have the chance to tour the stadium; looking at the locker room, stepping onto the turf at the stadium, as well as meeting with key people from the New York Jet’s sales team. Those on the team explained their role to students and the inner workings of what they do to help the Jet’s team thrive. On top of this, the class met with a person on the media team who explained how she helps promote the Jet’s
Sasso mentioned “The whole point is for the students to network and build connections into the sports world.” He believes that this day gives students a chance to build connections for their final project as well as potential job opportunities for the future.
In the past Mr. Sasso’s students have found themselves working for teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles, and major DI college teams. Those students will come in later in the school year and explain their roles to the class.
Students eagerly expressed interest in the facilities and the employees asking them questions about their role in the team, how the teams record impacts sales, the coolest parts of their job, where they went to school, and much more.
Overall, Sasso’s class learned a lot about the facilities at MetLife as well as how sales work. It was another successful field trip for the Sport Management class.
