Think you have a busy schedule? Well, the National English Honor Society sure is booked this holiday season!
This December, the NEHS is sponsoring a Holiday Book Drive in partnership with the Bridge of Books Foundation, a nonprofit organization striving to provide a continuous outlet of books to children throughout New Jersey who don’t have easy access to them.
Mrs. Cuccio, who took over NEHS last year, came up with the idea after speaking with representatives from the foundation and felt that “doing something like this is really valuable.”
With children surrounded by technology as they are these days, promoting literacy is extremely valuable, and Ms. Cuccio believes that the “opportunity to read a real book as opposed to digitally is a great way to build literacy at a young age.”
Even though they’ve already received many donations, yours will still be appreciated by not only the NEHS and the Bridge of Books Foundation, but also by the child receiving your book.
If you have books for children and teens sitting on your bookshelf that you loved but aren’t reading anymore, it may be time to pass them on to someone else who will really love them. You can still drop them off through December 22nd in the box in the main lobby or in Room 922.
Any gently used children’s or teens’ fiction or nonfiction book is being accepted, so it’s time to declutter your bookshelf and pass on the love of reading this holiday season.
