Now that 2025 is almost over, we can look ahead to 2026 to see what movies will come out next year. It’s a very stacked year with many big movies coming to the big screen, from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to Toy Story 5 to Avengers: Doomsday.
Here are six of the biggest movies that are coming out in 2026.
One of the first big releases of 2026 is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the sequel to 2023’s Super Mario Bros Movie. The movie is about Mario, Luigi, and their friends traveling across the galaxy, where they run into Bowser’s son, Bowser Jr. Most of the cast from the previous movie is returning, with Benny Safdie and Brie Larson joining them. The first Mario movie was a big hit at the box office, and the sequel is expected to follow in its predecessor’s footsteps. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases in theaters on April 3, 2026.
Later in April, Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic, releases. The film is directed by Training Day director Antoine Fuqua and focuses on Michael Jackson’s career, from his time with the Jackson 5 to becoming the King of Pop in the 1980s. Jafar Jackson, Michael’s real-life nephew, is making his film debut as his uncle, with the supporting cast, including Nia Long, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo. The teaser trailer for the movie recently came out and became the most-watched trailer for any music biopic or concert movie. Michael moonwalks its way into theaters on April 24, 2026.
Another movie that released a teaser trailer recently is Toy Story 5. The fifth installment in the Toy Story franchise is all about toys vs. tech, as the toys have to deal with a new enemy: a frog-like tablet named Lilypad. A lot of the cast is returning, including Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. Greta Lee joins them as Lilypad, along with Anna Faris, Conan O’Brien, and Ernie Hudson. The teaser earned 142 million views in its first 24 hours, and the movie is expected to make over a billion dollars at the box office. Toy Story 5 releases in theaters on June 19, 2026.
A month after Toy Story 5, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey comes out. The film is an adaptation of the book of the same name and is about Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca, and his journey back home after the Trojan War, where he encounters many mythical beings. The film has a stacked cast, with Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, and Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Odysseus’ wife, among other big names. A lot of people are excited to see this movie, especially after Nolan’s last movie, 2023’s Oppenheimer, was a big hit at the box office and with critics and fans alike. The Odyssey comes out in theaters on July 17, 2026.
Finally, Marvel is releasing two of their biggest movies next year. The first of these is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man movie. The film will pick up where Spider-Man: No Way Home left off, with nobody knowing who Peter Parker is and him continuing on as Spider-Man. Both Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk are going to be in this movie, as well as Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink, The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas, and Severance’s Tramell Tillman. Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
The second big Marvel release of 2026 is Avengers: Doomsday. The fifth Avengers movie brings together the Avengers, the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men from the Fox movies to defeat Dr. Doom, who will be played by Robert Downey Jr. Other cast members include Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, James Marsden, and Patrick Stewart. The first trailer is expected to premiere in front of this year’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters on December 18, 2026.
And those are only six of the biggest movies coming out next year. Other big movies are coming out soon, such as Scream 7, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Mortal Kombat 2, The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Dune: Part 3.
But will any of these movies be good, and will people actually go out and see them? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see.
