After last year’s success, Key Club at RDHS is excited to announce the return of its popular multilingual story time! Club members will read stories in their respective languages to children of all ages at the River Edge Public Library, with the next story time this Saturday, March 28th.
Opportunities like this highlight what makes Key Club a special club at River Dell, providing students with exposure to experiences focused on community engagement. Key Club’s treasurer, Raye Jeong, shared her thoughts on this unique event. This year, she is in charge of the story times.
”I think that multilingual story times are fun for the kids, but also a learning experience for club members. It’s important to spend time on learning and appreciating other languages, and sharing this moment with younger students in our community is a great way to achieve this.”
She also stated that her favorite part of these events “is seeing the children happy and excited to learn,” capturing the spirit of the program.
Volunteers are planning to read in several different languages, including English, Korean, and Spanish, followed by interactive activities to keep children engaged and inspired.
A freshman club member, Zhien Jin, said, “I’m excited to share my culture with others. Growing up, reading with my parents in my mother tongue was the highlight of my day, and now I get to read to other people.”
For Key Club, initiatives like multilingual story time serve for more than just an educational purpose – they also help the club meet its larger goals for the year, including increasing membership and hosting district projects. By offering meaningful community service opportunities, they continue to foster leadership, cultural awareness, and engagement.
Story times at the River Edge Public Library will be held on Fridays and Saturdays, with specific dates to be posted in upcoming weeks. Stop by to enjoy a story, learn something new, and see the excitement firsthand!
