A blood donation drive was held at the high school in the lower gym, giving students and staff the opportunity to donate blood and support an important cause. Blood drives help maintain the supply of blood that hospitals rely on every day for patients who need transfusions for surgeries, injuries, or medical treatments.
During the event, the lower gym was set up to accommodate donors and staff helping with the process. Participants checked in before beginning the standard blood donation procedure. Red Cross club members and organizers were present to guide donors through each step and help ensure that everything ran smoothly throughout the day. President of the club, Hailey Yhim, said, “The drive went way better than expected, and we are impressed with how many people donated.”
Blood donation drives like this one are important because hospitals depend on regular donations to keep enough blood available for patients. By hosting the drive at the school, it allowed eligible members of the school community to participate in a convenient and organized setting. To make sure that the people who donated recover, the Red Cross provided snacks and water and an area to lie down and rest. Not only did they receive free snacks, but the people who donated were gifted a fifteen-dollar gift card for their participation.
Students and staff who chose to donate were able to contribute to something that could help save lives. Events like these also help raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood donors and encourage people to consider donating in the future if they are eligible. The goal for blood donated was 51 units, but the high school beat it by 17 units and donated 68 units, which Mrs. Haemmerle was so thrilled to hear. She said, “Our official results from American Red Cross were fantastic! We collected 68 units, which was well above our goal of 51!”
Overall, the blood drive in the lower gym brought members of the school community together for a meaningful cause. Through their participation, donors helped support the effort to keep blood supplies available for those who need them. The event served as a reminder that even small actions, like donating blood, can make a significant difference for others in need.
