The Hawks boys Basketball team needed a “W” when they met Westwood on January 4th.  The team went into the game 2-5 after 2 straight tough losses against Ramsey and North Bergen.  Westwood came into the game 4-3 on a 4-game win streak.

The well-balanced Westwood team consists of three sophomores, two juniors, and five seniors and even has a freshman starter that’s scored 11 points over the season.

The first quarter stayed close, going back and forth between the two teams, and ended 13-14 Westwood.  The second quarter maintained that back and forth with Westwood retaining a small lead 27-29 at the half.

The third quarter was much different though.

Midway through, The Hawks started to heat up and went on a 9-0 run towards the end of the quarter.  It all started with Junior Ryan Rossig’s huge three to put the hawks ahead with 2 minutes left in the quarter.

The Hawks took this energy at the end of the third and continued it into the fourth where, with four minutes left, Sophomore David Nunez and Senior Sean Golden combined for a huge alley-oop taking the life out of Westwood.

The rest of the fourth quarter was all River Dell.  The team pulled away and extended their lead to 15 ending the game with a big 64-49 win.

Sean Golden finished the game with 27 points as the leading scorer for the team and Liam Hickey had 15 points with multiple early threes that kept River Dell in the game.
