Last week, on Wednesday, March 11th, the Tri-M Music Honor Society hosted a magical Disney-themed Open Mic Night that brought performers and audience members together to enjoy iconic Disney songs. Tri-M sold hot chocolate, snacks, and coffee as performers gathered to play and sing their favorite melodies.
“We had a great turnout with students from all grade levels, as well as parents. We had many performers, both from Tri-M and non-Tri-M members,” said Camryn Cariaga, the president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Audience members were able to enjoy some famous Disney songs, like “I See the Light” from Tangled, “Beauty and the Beast” from Beauty and the Beast, and “Remember Me” from Coco. Many of the performers loved this Tri-M event and thought it was so much fun to participate in. Some even said that listening to these songs brought a sense of nostalgia and reminded them of their childhood.
“I was excited to perform my song; I wasn’t nervous at all,” commented Milania Munofo, a Tri-M member. She and Hailey Cardenas, a junior, sang “For the First Time in Forever” from Frozen. “A couple months ago, I played Anna (my dream role) in my theater arts group. It was an honor to step into Anna’s shoes again.”
“The Disney Mic Event was one of the most fun Tri-M events that have taken place so far,” stated Dylan Lehmann, another Tri-M member. He sang “Go the Distance” from the movie Hercules. “I was so excited to perform!”
When asked about future events, the president shared that after seeing the success of the Disney Mic Event, Tri-M is currently planning a musical theater–themed Open Mic Night. There is also the Talent Show coming up on Wednesday, March 25th at 7 p.m. Students and staff are invited to perform their talents in the auditorium. It costs $5 to perform; the winner will receive 50% of the profits. If you want to try winning this grand prize, you can sign up using the link the Tri-M Honor Society sent out.
