Recently, movie theater owners from around the world gathered at CinemaCon, where Disney delivered a presentation on its upcoming slate of releases. They discussed films like The Mandalorian and Grogu, Toy Story 5, and the live-action Moana. But the movie that has people talking most is Avengers: Doomsday, which had a trailer shown exclusively to CinemaCon attendees.
Before the trailer was shown, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, the film’s directors—brothers Joe and Anthony Russo—and two of the movie’s main stars, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, all appeared on stage to talk about the project. Feige stated that Doomsday picks up right where 2019’s Avengers: Endgame left off, while the Russo brothers discussed Downey’s version of Doctor Doom. Joe Russo said, “He’s not simply a villain—he’s one of the most complex Marvel characters. He’s always three moves ahead.”
After all that, the trailer was finally shown—not once, but twice—for attendees at CinemaCon. The footage gave audiences their first look at Downey’s Doctor Doom, and some attendees have confirmed that he speaks with an accent and sounds nothing like Iron Man. The trailer also featured several wild moments, including a fight between Shang-Chi and Gambit, Thor warning the other heroes about how powerful Doctor Doom is and how they must work together to defeat him, Doctor Doom stopping Thor’s axe, Stormbreaker, with one hand, and Steve Rogers reuniting with Thor. Steve now has a look similar to his appearance in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, and when he shows up, Mjolnir comes flying out of Thor’s hand and into his.
The trailer has not yet been released online to the public, but it is expected to arrive sooner rather than later. Four teasers for the movie, which were attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash, have already made their way online. There is also the fact that the trailer for Dune: Part Three has already been released, even though that film shares the same release date as Doomsday on December 18. So it’s a safe bet that the Avengers: Doomsday trailer will drop within the next few months—and fans can’t wait to see it.
