The River Dell Football Senior Night is set to kick off Thursday October 30th. That same day is River Dell’s annual Pink Out game which brings awareness to breast cancer.
Pink Out is a huge event at River Dell with parents and students showing up to the game with pink clothing and accessories. Christian Bekdas, one of the student section leaders, said “River Dell Pink Out means a lot more than just football it takes a moment for us to realize how scary cancer really is.”
During the Hawks Senior Night football players, band members and cheerleaders each individually walk onto the field with their families as they are introduced to the crowd and honored for their contributions these last 4 years. They are all given flowers as they walk under a balloon arch and cheerleaders write letters to there parents they read after the football game.
Additionally, The Interact Club will be raising money for breast cancer research at the game in front of the entrance of the stadium. All proceeds will be going towards the Strides Against Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Hawks are set to play the Teaneck Highwaymen this week after coming off a stellar 42-0 win against Bergenfield.
RJ Weiss secured the win under center for the Hawks after starting Quarterback Zion Yoon went down for the Hawks with an ankle injury. Weiss was the teams primary wide receiver but since Yoon’s ankle injury has caused for him to step up to start at quarterback.
Following the win over Bergenfield, Weiss said, “We had a game plan which our team executed with my teammates making my job easy to make plays.”
Zion Yoon continues to remain questionable for Thursday’s contest. River Dell is currently 5-1 seeded 14th in the group 3 Super Football Conference while Teaneck is 2-3 seeded 19th in the group 4 Super Football Conference.
This upcoming game against the Highwaymen is a must win with River Dell already being seeded low and Pascack Valley and Westwood being the two remaining teams.
Westwood is currently 5-1 seeded 3rd in the group 2 Super Football Conference and Pascack Valley is currently 5-1 seeded 5th in the group 3 Super Football Conference.
Staring Right Tackle Josh Hums explained that how big Westwood and Pascack Valley dubs are for the playoff picture. “[Westwood and Pascack Valley] are considered lottery games for us is because there seedings and power points are high.”
If the Hawks were to beat the Highwaymen on Thursday, the chances of them clinching a playoff spot are almost guaranteed.
When asked what it would mean if the RDFB clinched a playoff spot, Assistant Coach Samuel Halabi said, “I think it would mean a lot, especially for the senior class who have worked pretty tirelessly the last 4 years along with some other kids on the team.”
