On November 25th, 2024 River Dell High School hosted an Open House event for the current 8th grade students from 6-8 PM.
The Open House is an event where River Dell High School’s principal, Mr. Pepe, and his entire administrative staff, get to help the incoming freshman choose River Dell for their next four years. The tours are led by current students at River Dell.
“It is to show the 8th grade families, what RDHS has to offer, and it gives them a taste of what they are going to get the next couple of years. I also know that a lot of 8th grade students are going to open houses at other schools, so we never had a chance to show of RDHS and I wanted them to stay here,” said Mr. Pepe.
The main goal of the Open House is “Showing the families and the students all our programs so they have a good idea of scheduling and where certain classes are,” said Mr. Pepe. This event has been going on for approximately five years and is a great way for current highschoolers to interact with the middle school students.
Though some RDMS students decide that a private school or another high school may be the better option most choose to attend RDHS.
Mr. Urbanovich, River Dell Middle School’s principal, also plays a role in the Open House. According to Mr. Urbanovich one of his main roles is to, “Greet the students and try to make them feel comfortable seeing a familiar face.”
Mr. Urbanovich mentioned “As you know, I try to be very visible during the day and I often will strike up conversations about where our students will attend high school. I try to put a positive spin on RDHS and highlight their success academically and athletically.”
