River Dell boys basketball opens at home Friday at 7 p.m. against the Pascack Valley Panthers. The boys are coming off a great win in their first game against crosstown rival Dumont, 63–48.
The Panthers, who lost their first game to Wayne Hills, will come ready to play, trying to secure their first win of the season.
River Dell fell short to Pascack Valley early last year, losing 60–43, which makes the boys want to win this game on Friday to avenge that loss.
Senior David Nunez, River Dell’s unofficial captain, stated, “We are expecting good competition on Friday, but we will bring great energy.”
River Dell has very good depth this year, even after losing important players last year. River Dell is starting three returning varsity players in their lineup: David Nunez, Joseph Saylik, and Nick Clark.
River Dell also has strong depth. Sophomores Iain Rossig and Charlie Lopresti are both coming off a huge game against Dumont, while other players like Josh Oliker, Anthony Pereia, and Micheal Nader are expected to bring good talent and hard work to the team as well this year.
River Dell used their height last year, but this year they will use their scoring ability and quickness to come out with a win this Friday, using good height and strong aggression.
