The Hawks flew higher during the Bergen County Relays, delivering impressive performances on the track, through the air, and on the field. A staggering 56 teams from across the county flooded the fields and facilities, with River Dell dominating throughout the meet. The competition spans three days, with each day focusing on different events. In total, the Hawks finished with a soaring 102 points.
Sophomore Jack Polak reflected, “This was my first year racing at the BCR, and I really enjoyed it. We have some strong guys racing, and I had a lot of fun running the 1×1600. I’m very excited for the coming years!”
River Dell hosts the relays year after year, and it has also become one of the most profitable days for the track program, as they raise money selling snacks, drinks, and food at the field house. Additional revenue comes from shirt sales and admission fees for parents, helping River Dell maintain its facilities.
Senior Chris Baxter reflected, “Our win at BCR proved what we are capable of as a team. Only a championship-level team can score points in every event.”
The Bergen County Relays nearly faced postponement this year due to a thunderstorm during the second day of competition. River Dell athletes gathered in the field house, while other teams took shelter in the upper gymnasium. Once the storm cleared, however, the Hawks delivered strong performances across the board.
Junior Kevin Kochian added, “I really love Bergen County Relays because it’s an opportunity to root on your teammates while competing in events that you don’t usually compete in.”
Both the boys’ and girls’ teams competed hard, and their contributions helped River Dell emerge as a formidable opponent. The Hawks earned first-place finishes in several events and continued to show strong depth across the board. Those who did not compete directly also made significant contributions, including the hurdle-moving crew and the results runner, who climbed a staggering 150+ flights of stairs.
Overall, the Hawks soared, and they look forward to continuing their season and scoring big in upcoming meets that matter.
