On the evening of October 1st, the River Dell Volleyball program honored the seniors with a celebration. The senior class includes captain Samantha Idiculla, captain Leah McHale, and captain Addison Viscardi, as well as Angela McDonough, Olivia Marino, Nora Posadas, and Amy Usatine.
Before the game on Senior Night the River Dell Volleyball had earned a stupendous record of 8-1.
The remaining varsity players went out of their way to decorate the gym to make sure the senior’s day was perfect. The gym was filled with balloons, streamers, banners, posters and most importantly family and friends. Each senior was called out and escorted with her guardian and photographed in the center of the court.
The Varsity team competed against Ridge Highschool, Home at 5:30, who’s record consisted of 0-9. The 1st set ended in favor of the home team River dell with a score of 25 to 17. And to finish the 2nd set senior Angela McDonough spiked from the right side to end the match with a score of 25-22. “Playing with all of the seniors was also very special because it reminded me of how far we’ve come since playing together as freshmen,” said senior Angela McDonough.
River Dell varsity team captured the win against Ridge Highschool to advance their record to 9-1.
Each Senior has played together since freshman year and many still hold the memories freshmen volleyball gifted them with. “It’s not a common occurrence where all 6-7 of the seniors get to play together, but when we did it was like we were back in freshmen year playing in the dingy lower gym,” senior player Olivia Marino state. “It felt good to play with these familiar faces.”
All the seniors were able to step foot on the court and make an impact on the game.
The bittersweet game was a huge success for the River Dell volleyball team, and although the girls were a huge part of the win, they don’t want the people behind the scenes that helped them reach this accomplishment go unnoticed. Senior Samantha Idiculla said, “I would obviously like to thank my coaches for helping me grow as an individual.”
“We’ve become a family and I’m so grateful to have had such a positive experience on this team,” said Idiculla
